The "Just Right" Cover Artist
Hi all!
In recent posts I've discussed shopping around for the cover artist that best suits your style. I cannot stress how important it is to find the right cover artist for you. Each artist has a unique style, just like you. If you hire someone because you're in a rush, the price is right, it's your friend, etc., you may not like your cover. The book you have written is your baby--don't just let anyone dress it!
In order to drive my point home, I recently competed in a fantasy challenge with four other cover artists. The theme was "Taken". No more specifics. The poster we created was whatever we thought or deemed would fit in the theme. Even I was surprised at how DIFFERENT we interpreted the theme. There is nothing the same about any of these images. And bonus, if you visit http://cisyn.blogspot.com/2013/11/fantasy-art-by-erin-dameron-hill.html and comment in that blog, you will have a chance to win the posters created by me and other cover artists!
Below are all the entries. As you can see, each cover artist has a different perspective. This is why you should ALWAYS shop around and find the artist who best suits you!

Now that you've seen the proof, be sure to shop around for the right fit!
Thank you!

Wow, it's really hard to decide which one I like best. Each one is very well done, and they almost represent very distinctly different books. I love the dark tone of the first one, but the fourth one with the couple is just as compelling.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tarah! It really is amazing how different they are.
